The sculpture of the “Little Mermaid” is based on a fairy tale of the Danish poet and writer Hans Christian Andersen.
Some Danish people claims that this sculpture is one of the most photographed statues in the world. But one thing is for sure. It’s the most popular sight in whole Denmark.
The sculpture was made in the beginning of the 20th century by a man called Edvard Eriksen who lived from 1876 to 1958. The disclosure of the statue of bronze took place on the 23th August 1913.

In Denmark the important sight is known as “Den Lille Havfrue”.
In 1964 unknown persons have removed the head of the mermaid during the night. As the old casting mould from 1913 was still available, it was not a problem to make a new head.
Little Mermaid is located in the district of Fredriksstaden.
its so awesome….i’ve been there…but it’s better in real life instead of in photos…

I agree with Ali, To see this work in person makes it even more signifigant. I backpacked across Europe from 2006-2007 and Copenhagen was my favorite city. I stayed for three weeks and tried to take it everything. The little Mermaid is very popular and the people I made friends with always asked if I’d been out to see it.
