The glorious idea to build an amusement park outside of the city came from a journalist. He convinced his king with the sentence: “If your subjects are amused, they won’t politicise”. The king agreed, and Tivoli amusement park opened its gates on the 15th August 1843.

Today, the park is not outside of the city anymore. Denmarks capital grew, and after the erection of a railway station in 1847, Tivoli became a great success.
The amusement park is one of Copenhagens most important sights. The visitor is able to discover a lot of interesting and joyful things. From scurrile funfair attractions like “ring-the-bell” and gambling halls, on to dizzy roller coasters and noble restaurants.
