Statens Museum for Kunst is Denmarks biggest art collection, and can be found in the district of Fredriksstaden, Kronprinsessegade 14.
The first art works came from the Royal art chamber in 1884. Castle Christiansborg was burning, and the Royal collection of paintings had to find a new shelter. This was the birth of Statens Museum for Kunst.
The museum was extended in 1998. Visitors can see and admire a lot of works from Danish artists. Especially the period between 1816 and 1858 is strongly represented.
But there are also works from French, Italian, and Duch artists. Those can be found in the older part of the museum, and date from the Royal collection.
