Den Hirschsprungske Samling Copenhagen

The man known as “Heinrich Hirschsprung” lived from 1836 to 1908, and became rich by the trade and manufacture of tobacco products.

His passion was the art. The invested most of his money in works of art. In 1902 he decided to give the whole collection to his nation. This collection compromises all important works of Danish artists from the 19th and early 20th century: Eckersberg, Christen Kobke, Kristian Zahrtman, Vilhelm Hammershoj, Johan Thomas Lundbye, and much more.

The Hirschsprung collection can be seen in Stockholmsgade 20, in the district of Fredriksstaden.
